I will be the first to state that I am not a politically intelligent individual. I don’t claim to be politically savvy and know everything there is to know about the in’s and out’s of the election of our president. But there are a few things that I, as a voter, think are important, and that our president should embody.
Now please don’t take this post as anything other than me expressing MY PERSONAL OPINION.
First of all, I don’t care one flying leap who you vote for, that you exercise your right and VOTE.
I believe that it is every person of voting age responsibility to cast their vote. With that said, this means that one must do some research. Educate yourselves one the issues, and employ some common sense.
I’m not going to debate who the best person for the job is, or why I believe as I do, but I will say with all my heart that the person I want in office is NOT Donald Trump. Yes, times change and events in the world dictate behaviors and the way we handle things. However when I think of a world leader, our president, I envision a few qualities…
Dignity – Merriam-webster dictionary defines the word dignity as:
: a way of appearing or behaving that suggests seriousness and self-control
: the quality of being worthy of honor or respect
I have a problem viewing this candidate as having any dignity. He certainly does not show self-control, does not display any sign of respect, or come across as being worthy of honor.
When anyone, male or female makes statements such as “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters,” and claim it was a joke,
Donald-Trump says joking said shoot somebody doesn’t show honor or self-control. It doesn’t matter what you consider the correct number or mass shootings in 2015 as 355 or 4, the simple fact that people can walk into any office, student can walk into a school, and shoot an array of weapons, is ridiculous. And to make a state like the one above is disrespectful and in poor taste, for anyone wishing to hold the highest office in this country.
Respect- Merriam-webster dictionary defines the word respect as:
: a feeling of admiring someone or something that is good, valuable, important, etc.
: a feeling or understanding that someone or something is important, serious, etc., and should be treated in an appropriate way
: a particular way of thinking about or looking at something
Where is the respect for the values and beliefs that The United States was founded on? The beliefs that we are all created equal, have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness…along with that is our Bill of rights, and the amendments that as a nation were signed into law.
Our right to freedom of religion… Religion is more than Catholic, Protestant, and Judaism. I know it isn’t “fashionable” but Islam is a religion, not all Muslims are terrorists. The right to practice our chosen religion is a foundation of America. ALL religion not just the ones we choose to accept.
America has been a melting pot of nationalities, the land of the free, a place where people of any race and color came to better their lives. Immigrants… Again I know it isn’t a popular thought, but unless we are of Native Indian decent, our forefathers were immigrants.
Our mothers fought and worked just as hard as our fathers to make this place what it is. They fought for the right to be recognized, for the right to place their vote and have a say in our laws. Why is it right for anyone to stand up in front of the world stage and degrade women? A man that want’s to run our country feels it is perfectly ok to speak to ANY woman as though she were beneath him? It doesn’t matter his personal opinion of her, the mere fact that he feels it’s alright to voice, “fat pigs’, ‘dogs’, ‘slobs’, and ‘disgusting animals.” and then making it a joke.
Do we really want a man in our highest office who doesn’t show the slights hint of having a diplomatic bone in his body? His egotistical remarks about women flirting with him and “it being expected,” the comments about rape being expected because men and women serve in the military. People like him because he is going to make America great again? It sounds like to me that the only America he will make great again is the one were the KKK walks tall, every citizen roams the street with a firearm at their side, and women are once again treated as property.
Do I believe any of the other candidates are a better choice…some more than others, but then again for those that have held offices in the political arena they have to be a better choice than someone who, signaling that he would not promise unconditional loyalty to anyone else on stage should they win the nomination.
All one has to do is listen to what comes out of his mouth to know where his loyalties lie.
